24-25 PTSA Programs, Activities, & Events (select to expand)
100 Mile Running Club (year round)
The PTSA organizes this fun program every year, where 1st-5th grade students run in the morning before school out on the blacktop by the playground with the goal of trying to run 100 miles over the course of the year. The program usually runs a few days a week before school (typically between 8-8:20am) from October to May. Specific sign-up requests will go out sometime after school starts.
Running club depends on weekly, committed volunteers who will sign up for a day a week. Interested in volunteering? Email Kelly Soemantoro at Ksoemantoro@gmail.com.
Hawes Library (year round)
We are excited that the old Accelerated Reader (AR) library and the Hawes Library are merging this year to create one Hawesome library! Accelerated Reader (AR) is a supplemental incentive-based reading program offered to all students to improve reading comprehension. Each 1st-5th grade student has an AR goal each trimester and must read AR books and complete AR tests to earn AR points to reach their goal. At Hawes, we need PTSA Volunteers to support maintaining the library. Interested in volunteering? Email Emily Selna at Eselna@gmail.com.
Book Fair (10/16-10/20)
The PTSA hosts the school book fair twice a year!
24-25 fall dates: 10/14-10/18
Stay tuned for your PTSA emails if you're interested involunteering.
Earth Week (4/21-4/25)
The PTSA celebrates Mother Earth and our environment each year with a series of fun activities each day during Earth week.
Volunteers are needed! Subscribe to our newsletter to make sure you hear about volunteer requests in the spring.
Hawktoberfest! (10/17)
We're excited to bring back Hawktoberfest this fall on October 17th!
We still need volunteers to join the Hawktoberfest committee to help us coordinate different elements. If you're interested, please email hawesptsa@gmail.com!
PTSA Assemblies
The PTSA provides fun, interactive assemblies for all students each year. Examples include Happiness Now and Imagination Machine.
Red Ribbon Week (10/28-10/31)
Schools and communities throughout the nation participate in Red Ribbon Week to increase education and awareness about the dangers of drug-use and substance abuse. At Hawes' we have activities for students throughout the week.
School Garden (year round)
The PTSA provides supplies, plants, and support to maintain the Hawes' garden.
The garden is a great way for students to learn about the benefits of gardening, not only for the environment, but also for mental health.
We need regular garden volunteers! To sign up, email Chair Kira Babb at kirababb@gmail.com.
Secret Shopper (12/4-12/8)
This annual event is a student and volunteer favorite! Students have the opportunity to purchase a total of 10 holiday gifts for friends and family members. All gifts are then wrapped and labeled. 24-25 Dates: 12/9-12/12
Sports Day (06/10/25)
Right before school ends, the PTSA organizes a day of fun sports activities out on the blacktop for all Hawes' students.
We need many, many volunteers to make this fun day work, and there are typically opportunities from 8am-noon. Subscribe to our newsletter to make sure you hear about volunteer requests in the spring.
Spring Movie Night (3/7/25)
Save the date for our 3rd annual movie night, which will be held on March 7th, 2025! We're moving the movie night to the spring this year.
Staff Appreciation Week (4/28-5/2)
Each year we honor and thank our amazing Hawes Elementary staff with a week of celebration!
Volunteers needed! Subscribe to our newsletter to make sure you hear about volunteer requests in the spring.
Yearbook
The PTSA puts together the yearbook each year, which is a huge undertaking, and we can use your help to share photos of school events activities.
